We are scheduled to work on your order this month and will need the following information to help us proceed and stay on track. Some information we need soon and others later so let’s break it down to easy steps for you.

Remember to stand out from the crowd in your new costume. Every dancer is unique and looking like the latest champion dancer will not make you place higher.

Your design ideas

You can have as much or as little say in the design of your costume as you want. Remember we watch all the trends and are very experienced in creating costumes that both suit a dancer and look amazing on stage too!

People can get overwhelmed with this side of the process but we make it easy to find out what you have in mind by using a few simple methods.
Here’s what we need:

  • Base colour suggestions. (a full Black dress or Black dress with different coloured arms etc.)

  • Colours that you would like to go with the base colour. (Gold and White on a Black base etc)

  • Five photos of your favourite costumes from any dress designer. (This will help us see if you like detailed designs or prehaps bolder looks. Without you realising there will be a common thread between them all..)

  • Simple Text document in Word or Notepad explaining why you like each photo and anything else you would like to tell us.

Feel free to create a mood board of your ideas too if you are creative or otherwise photos and text will be sufficient. Upload all files individually or create a PDF or Word doc to combine them.

Note: Its is very important to consult your dance teacher/coach before this to see if they have any specific ideas in mind. Use their experience and knowledge

All your ideas can be uploaded to the Rising Star Dropbox Link below.

Extra seam allowance is left in the sleeve, center back, bodice side seams and drop waist for future alterations.

Take your time measuring as we will make the costume to these measurements and any mistakes will cost extra to correct later.

Let’s get measuring!

We have two methods of measuring, manual measuring with a tape & photographs and then our Body Scan method we use when we are putting the dress together later.

Manual Measuring

Take your time and prepare yourself. Watch the video below and mark down each measurement before filling out the form. We would recommend three people be present during the process, one to measure , one to take photos and the dancer. Here are some things to remember:

  • Please use a soft measuring tape. A builders tape will not do.

  • Dancer must wear a tight shirt and shorts for measurements. No t-shirts, baggy pants, or jeans.

  • Dancer must stand up straight at all times as any slouching will result in incorrect measurements

  • You must take a photo of each measurement like in the example photos below. The tape measure must be clearly visible and the photo taken forward facing.

  • Print out the measurement form to fill out and then use it to fill the measurements online when you are finished.

Watch the video below detailing how to take each measurement and write down each one. Someone should take a photo matching the example photos below of each measurement.

Note:
Take your time measuring as we will make the costume to these measurements and any mistakes will cost extra to correct later. Extra seam allowance is left in the sleeve, center back, bodice side seams and drop waist for future alterations.

Here are examples of the photographs we require

Remember every dancer is different in many ways so when we receive measurements without having a dancer in our studio we do our very best to achieve a perfect fit.

Body Scan Measuring (not needed yet)

This is the final method for measuring and is only used when the dress is nearing the construction stage. When your order is nearing this stage we will email you a special link to follow which will have full instructions of how to use this feature.

Note:
You must use both methods of measuring to achieve a good fit!

  2. Five of your favourite costumes. (individual or as a mood-board in Word/PDF)

  3. Photographs of the 20 measurements needed as per the example photos plus a photo of the dancer standing straight Front, Side & Back.

  4. 20 Measurements written out ready to be filled into the form below.

What happen’s next?

Well done for getting to this stage. We know ordering a new costume can be a daunting task but we hope we have made it more enjoyable for you.

Once all of your information is sent in, a pattern is allocated to the order and passed onto the design team. They will then email you your design for you to look over and hopefully approve or you can make some suggestions for changes.

Once your costume design is approved and your costume is in production we will send you a weekly update. This will give a brief explanation of where your costume is in the production line.

When the costume is nearing the construction stage we will check the measurements a final time using our Body Scan method. We will alert you of this by emailing you a special link to follow which will have full instructions of how to use this feature.

You can contact us at any time to enquire about your order by email or phone.

Disclaimer:

  • We will not be held responsible for measurements taken incorrectly.

  • Photos must match the example photos provided above.

  • All photos will be deleted 6 months after the delivery/collection of the costume.

  • All information is securely stored by Rising Star Designs.

  • We advise people to read and follow all instructions provided.

  • All dancers are shaped differently and we are constructing a costume many times without the dancer being present. We do everything we can to achieve the perfect fit.
